"People with faces a little bit Chinese-eyes like almond" [...] "We don't see any of those kids again."
This extract from the book clearly demonstrates one of the ideologies which was used during the Khmer Rouge regime :Racism. This was clearly used in the book as people who did not look like the rest were exterminated in the hope of "purifying the populace." According to various genocide scholars this ideology was very similar to the ideology which was used during WWII and during the Armenian genocide. During both genocides they tried to "purify the population" and killed people who did not match the religion or people who did not look like the other as they wanted to create a superior race. Therefore, this book clearly demonstrates this ideology as anyone who did not match the "look" was killed as they also wanted to create a master race which would create their ideal Cambodia.
